International squash players compete at the Manor
International squash players have competed at Ilkeston’s Manor Health and Racquets Club in the Derbyshire County Closed competition.
Held on January 25th, the event saw England international players competing for a series of titles over the three-day-long tournament.
The finals saw high standards of play from all involved, with Adam Turner and Lesley Sturgess being crowned winners of the Men’s and Women’s Main titles.
Matt Barton won the Men’s Handicapped group.
Charlie Wall was victorious in the Men’s over 45’s, and Neil Nightingale in the Men’s over 55’s category.
England international Sue Smith claimed the title for the Women’s over 40’s.
She said: “It was a very enjoyable competition thanks to the players, markers and organisers.
“I am usually a runner up in these competitions so it feels great to have won the over 40’s plate.”
Annette Hayden, club manager at the Manor Health and Racquets, said: “Everyone played really well, it was great to see such a high level of squash being played at the club.”
